WP2 - Biomaterials and nanomedicine
About
The unaddressed needs of the health market have led to research and development of new technologically innovative products and solutions. The controlled release of drugs is one of the areas motivating new approaches to therapeutic formulation as a form of local and controlled administration of drugs for the treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes. WP 02 (A2. Biomaterials and nanomedicine) aims at attending unmet needs of caregivers, chronically ill patients (e.g. those with diabetes, ulcers, etc.), and the general population by developing innovative products that can be incorporated into the value chain of medical devices and medicines, promoting their placement at the forefront and reference level in the health area, positioning them to respond to the global market demand. To this end, the WP incorporates a set of activities aimed at:
- the development of advanced systems for controlled drug delivery through topical and transdermal application, which will result in a comprehensive range of products that will materialize in functional textile structures and bioactive adhesives/pastes;
- new formulations for advanced therapies and innovative drugs; and
- technologies for measuring drug degradation.
